Paraprofessional 

Division or Department: Teaching (2nd/3rd Grade Paraprofessional) 

Position or Type: Full Time 

Reports to: Principal

Salary: Commensurate with experience   (Salary beginning at $22,970.00)

Anticipated Start Date: August 2025 (180 days)

General Description:

The paraprofessional is an integral member of the education team. The paraprofessional is responsible for assisting the teacher in the academic and behavioral support of young students in the classroom. Paraprofessionals provide moderate to intensive support of students’ academic and behavioral needs as aligned to their education goals.

Expectations, Educational Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree,  two years of college, or passed the Paraprofessional assessment. Experience with tutoring and intervention strategies for students in 2nd and 3rd grade. 

  • At least one year of experience as a paraprofessional

  • Experience working with students with a wide variety of academic and behavioral needs

  • Written and oral proficiency in English (French is a plus)

  • Model and apply non-discriminatory practices in all activities

  • Flexibility and a team work ethic

  • Well developed interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain confidential files and information

  • Organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Dependable and punctual

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in phonics instruction or reading intervention is a plus

  • Knowledge of the Louisiana education system and the French system of education is a plus

Role and Responsibilities:

Instruction:

  • Provide goal oriented instructional support to the student as directed by general education teachers and administration.

  • Assist with instructional strategies based on student state standards.

  • Use a variety of materials and instructional techniques when appropriate.

  • Collaborate with the education team members to provide feedback and data related to student’s progress.

  • Document instruction of intervention sessions daily

  • Monitor progress by tracking 

Behavioral:

  • Support students’ behavioral needs in the general education setting by implementing the strategies and techniques outlined in the schoolwide behavior plan (PBIS Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports).

  • Facilitate social interactions among children in the classroom. 

  • Support students and teachers in Positive Behavior Intervention and Support.

Other Duties:

  • Supervise students (duty) as requested.

  • Provide escorts and assistance to students as needed.

  • Participate in CPI and CPR training as requested.

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, and facilities.

  • Effectively communicate with school administrators and teachers regarding student performance and plans for improvement .

  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional learning communities meetings.

  • Attend professional development sessions.

  • Produce performance-based activities to support school initiatives.

  • The Paraprofessional will be called upon to assist in all areas of school life as needed. 

  • And all other duties requested by administration.

This is a position that includes all benefits afforded to Louisiana state employees including a choice of one of five medical benefit plans with options of additional supplemental insurance plans.  Employees receive ample time off surrounding holidays and extended weekends when the school is closed for instruction.  This position also qualifies for participation in the Louisiana State Teachers’ Retirement plan.

École Pointe-au-Chien is a free public school based in Pointe-au-Chien and governed by an independent state board with a French immersion curriculum consistent with Louisiana state standards and rooted in our local bayou Indian and Cajun French culture. École Pointe-au-Chien opened fall of 2023 for grades K and 1st, added Pre-K and 2nd in the school year 2024-25, 3rd grade will be added in August of 2025-26, and 4th grade in 2026-2027.
