English Language Arts Teacher

General Description:
Responsible for English Language Arts for 2nd and 3rd Grade
Experience in curriculum development and diverse teaching strategies.
Willing to learn French and work in a rural community.
Job Duties:
Curriculum and Instruction
Crafting a classroom vision and creating an academic long-term plan for instruction.
Planning and executing the year’s curriculum, lessons and learning objectives while aligning to the state standards to assure student learning.
Providing differentiated instruction to ensure the needs of all types of learners and students.
Providing direct instruction and small group instruction.
Working to ensure that all IEP/504 goals are being met.
Recording grades, reporting attendance and completing report cards.
Data Analysis and Achievement
Providing data driven instruction with support from the school leader,
Assessing student learning and checking for mastery with daily exit slips, weekly quizzes and unit tests, among other examples of assessments that are aligned to the Louisiana State Standards.
Holding bi-weekly subject level data meetings that are centered around outcomes for meeting student needs and improving instruction.
School Culture and Parent Engagement
Providing parents with regular feedback through quarterly parent-teacher conferences, phone calls once a month, progress reports, report cards and other communication as needed.
Investing in students and learning the culture of the community and school
Promoting students’ character development in a positive classroom environment by establishing an atmosphere of educational community that nurtures and challenges students to become more curious, kind, empathetic, engaged and willing to grapple with complex problems in order to create a just, sustainable and joyful world.
Effectively working on a team.
Taking on leadership responsibilities within the school.
Following the student and staff discipline policies and the staff and student handbooks.
Being committed to growing professionally through consistent feedback from the school leader, academic studies, conferences, and professional development.
Preferred Qualifications:
5-10 years of experience in lower elementary education.
Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Google suite, accounting software, and all Microsoft Office programs.
Highly organized and meticulous about records, documentation, and accuracy.
Minimum Requirements:
Has a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Uses data to inform decisions and is achievement driven.
Has demonstrated mastery of lesson planning and long-term planning.
Has an outstanding behavior management and investment system.
Has demonstrated mastery in time-management skills.
Has exceptional problem-solving skills and values feedback.
Has knowledge of the Louisiana Student State Standards within their content area.
Fosters relational capacity among staff, parents and students.
This is a position that includes all benefits afforded to Louisiana State employees including a choice of one of five Medical benefit plans with options of additional supplemental insurance plans. Employees receive ample time off surrounding holidays and extended weekends when the school is closed for instruction. This position also qualifies for participation in the Louisiana State Teachers’ Retirement plan.
École Pointe-au-Chien is a free public school based in Pointe-aux-Chênes and governed by an independent state board with a French immersion curriculum consistent with Louisiana state standards and rooted in our local bayou Indian and Cajun French culture. French language or willingness to learn French is encouraged. École Pointe-au-Chien opened Fall of 2023 for grades K and 1st, will add Pre-K and 2nd in the school year 2024-25, 3rd grade in 2025-26, and 4th grade in 2026-2027.
